Family Style History
Family Style History is a concept that allows all members of the family to study the same historical themes, countries, or time periods as a group. Older children may work independently for more in-depth learning while younger children can sit in and listen to the stories and participate in a family discussion. There are many home school resources for the study of history. We encourage families to choose the method and philosophy that works best within the dynamics of their own family. On this Hearthstone Education website, we provide a list of stories from several resources arranged on a time line so that you may discover and enjoy history stories from a variety of education providers while pursuing the history program of your choice.

Topics for children 8-12 Topics for teens You will note the monthly themes for the youth calendar and the teen calendar are the same. However, the teen calendar introduces a time line and expands to World History. The youth calendar focuses on American History with a broader theme each quarter. This allows families with children in both age groups to have a common thread for family discussion, while children can focus their learning on ideas that are developmentally appropriate.
