History is much more than the tedious study of names, dates and boring facts it has been turned into.
It is a fascinating world of living, breathing adventures, heroes and villains, triumphs and tragedies, discoveries and explorations and amazing stories you have to read to believe.

Learning from the past is a great way for us learn how to make better decisions for the future. As they, if you don't learn from the past, you will repeat the same mistakes. If we don't know the past, how can we ever learn from it. History isn't just looking behind us, it is an opportunity to build a brighter future before us.

Once students have established a good foundation in the junior history track they are now ready to explore further moving into a more in-depth study of various periods in time; discovering how each time and culture related to each other and how the stories and events of the past directly impact the future. Reading historic fiction, biographies can be enhanced with non-fiction books and stories, note-booking, hook-dates, timelines and writing assignments. It is a great opportunity for students to study geographic regions and cultures along with the history stories. It is also the perfect time to study the past in relation to current events, introduce principles of liberty, the Constitution and government.

How you study history in your home and which order is completely up to you and your child. The senior years are the Learning for Life years where youth expand on the love of learning they developed in the primary years. They will begin to take a greater interest and role in their education. Including them in your curriculum decisions will help keep them engaged and interested.
