LDS Homeschool Curriculum

  • Living History:  World, US. and Native American History with an LDS perspective.  Six years of curriculum is available. Students will be able to explore the World Before Christ, the World After Christ, United States History, and Native American History.  (Includes North, Central and South America and Book of Mormon Studies).
  • Introduction to home schooling for LDS families:   This blog post provides an excellent summary of home schooling resources and approaches as well as some LDS education principles.
  • LIFE School - Life Integrated Family Education:    LIFE School is a program  based on classic education, but it is anything but traditional. The program is unique in that the children will  begin their school day when it is convenient for their parents, or when the children wake up and are best ready to begin learning.  Click here to learn more:     http://www.lifeschoolk12.org/
  • Latter-Day Learning:   A complete LDS family homeschool curriculum for children ages 4 to 14!  Brought to you by American Heritage School.  Click here to learn more.
  • Family School Online:   Designed & developed by LDS homeschoolers for LDS homeschoolers, The Family School combines over 45 years of refined academics and the one-room schoolhouse format to enrich homeschooling for Latter-day Saint families who desire a restored gospelcomponent with excellent academics.  Brought to you by American Heritage School.
  • American Heritage School:  American Heritage strengthens teachings of the restored Gospel throughout our academic curriculum in a variety of ways. Homeroom teachers begin each day in class with a morning devotional for the students and each grade presents a class devotional once per year for the entire School.  Moral and religious education is incorporated daily in every class and every subject – not as a separate subject and not in a separate location. Students read a large variety of literature from Shakespeare to Tolstoy to writings of the prophet Joseph Smith. A providential view of history is taught and re-enforced through the use of timelines in each classroom that begin with pre-mortal life, continue with developments in the Bible and Book of Mormon as well as world and American history and end with the Second Coming. Additionally, students are taught to see the hand of God particularly in the establishment and preservation of America through stories that are shared from American history. • Liahona Academy:  Liahona’s classes are designed to combine temporal knowledge in the context of the eternal. For many teenage students, revealed knowledge, LDS truths, values and principles are often relegated to “church or seminary” with little understanding of how they apply to academic subjects and thought. Their goal and desire is to present academics and revealed knowledge into one whole, equipping students to fulfill their heritage and mission.  Click here to learn more:  https://www.liahonaeducation.com
  • Kimber Academy:   Kimber Academy has a three-fold objective for their students:  God - Family - Country.   (1) We believe in putting Faith and Moral Values first. We teach students to build a relationship with their Creator, and every subject includes a study of the scriptures. (2)  We believe school should be an extension of the home, with parents as the inspired educational guides for their children, and (3)  We believe the youth will play a special role in restoring a love for America and help restore the principles of freedom.  Click here for more information: http://kimber.academy/
  • Liberty Hills Academy:  Liberty Hills Academy is a Family Education Center that provides instruction to Preschool through 8th Grade students in an atmosphere that is focused on the teachings of the Savior. Our primary function is to support parents in their responsibility of educating their children, and to strengthen the core values taught at home in the classroom. Bountiful, Utah.
  • Hold to the Rod:   Hold To the Rod units revolve around the gospel stories that children enjoy so much. Academic subjects are taught as they relate to these scripture stories. Therefore, with Hold To the Rod, when we read the story of Joseph being sold into slavery in our scriptures, we study Egypt as an academic subject. When we read the Word of Wisdom, we study nutrition. In this way, both the parent and the student can receive the benefits of greater understanding of the Word of God in a positive learning environment.  There is a flow from scripture to academic study, rather than a break that divides them into two subjects. All the children will be studying basically the same thing at the same time, but on different levels. This makes for interesting conversations, fun projects and a sense of family unity.
  • Moor House Academy:   An independent private school offering k-12 curriculum, classes, mentoring, resources, and transcripts. Many families use these resources for their home school curriculum, and some use it to enrich the education their children are already receiving through other sources. No matter what your educational circumstances we have something for you!
  • Milestones Academy: This is a free curriculum for parents to use as they determine for their family. There is no right or wrong way as long as you give special heed to D&C 121: 41-42 and 1 Corinthians 13.  Enjoy the contents on the website and use at your own discretion.
  • Joseph Smith Academy:   Joseph Smith Academy, a division of Joseph Smith Foundation, is an educational resource for families and individuals dedicated to “scholarship founded on revelation”.  Click here to discover a wealth of information.

Lesson Plans and Devotional Guides

  • God Saw That It Was Good:  Within this book you will find the creation story and its symbolism. On the right side of each page is the story for the young reader with colored pictures. The left side of the page is the background to the story, the ancient Hebrew symbols and how to draw perfect shapes. You will see how the LDS Articles of Faith correlate with this symbolism.  You will discover how God uses sequencing and other beautiful and simple truths in creating. This is an overview book of the numbers 1 through 7 in the "How to Discover" series.
  • LDS Resources from Kimber Academy
  • Armor your Children: Armor Your Children is a devotional series designed to send your school-bound kids out the door armed with the Word of God.  Each week has a theme supported by 5 different scriptures (Monday-Friday).
  • Discover the Scriptures::  Excellent home school resources for LDS families.  Click here to learn more about these great workbooks and resources.
  • Gospel Principles Study Guide for Young Children:  This study is for young children using the Gospel Principles manual published by the Church. The lessons are broken down into daily segments and augmented with songs, scriptures and memory suggestions, pictures, and materials from the Friend magazine. A few of the lessons are less appropriate for young children, and I‘ve left them completely open or less structured to allow for easy adapting to family needs, or omission, as the parent sees fit. A typical weekly plan involves some reading and discussion each day of the week, with Fridays usually spent in review or reading supplementary material from the Friend. For each weekly lesson, I list a suggested memory verse approximately every two weeks, pictures from the Gospel Art Picture Kit which may enhance the lesson, and stories from the various Scripture Readers published by the Church which relate to that week‘s theme."
